Spielart - das Festival fürs Publikum

Dear audience!

From 16 November to 2 December the international SPIELART Theater Festival will once again be Munich's window on the theater world - on the theater world far away from Munich as well as on the theater world in Munich's backyard. With over 20 new productions and guest performances, SPIELART would like to invite you to see contemporary theater from Quebec, Canada, Israel, Great Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Croatia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

In selecting the productions for the festival, we were interested in artists and productions that express the specialness, the vivaciousness and the unexpectedness of the theater art form, productions with sensuality, humor and intelligence. SPIELART provides a platform for artists who take risks, are curious and perform theater skillfully and directly. For theater is - unlike all art from a can - the opportunity for artists and audiences to use the "here and now."

Theater is the oldest interactive art form in the world: it doesn't exist without the artist and the audience. During the 17 days and nights of the SPIELART Theater Festival we want to show you how theater artists today are seducing their audiences and whisking them away to another realm.

The palette of the program features new productions of plays by Chekhov and Kafka, ghostly invitations for an evening event, strange variety shows, shrill talk shows and "service arts," the author of "Zimtläden" ("Cinnamon Shops"), Bruno Schulz, sarcastic entertainment and voyeuristic discoveries, enticing Internet escapades and an audio tour through Munich, discussions, personal tête-à-têtes with the artists, and, last but not least, premiere celebrations and nocturnal parties.

Welcome!

As in the past, this year SPIELART will also be a network festival. This would not be possible without the collaboration of many institutions in and outside of Munich.
